La Mort de Louis XIV (The Death of Louis XIV), 2016, France/Portugal/Spain, 115 min.
Director: Albert Serra
The Death of Louis XIV is set in the king’s Versailles bedchamber in August 1715, during the final days of a reign that lasted seventy-two years. Before an anxious audience comprised of a cortege of servants and doctors, the death transpires like theatre as the ailing monarch (played by Jean-Pierre Léaud) is scrutinized for signs of an unlikely recovery.
