The future of Europe as a present. During this session, students are invited to make a present together. A present for the composer Fredric Rzewski in the form of a recorded conversation. Rzewski is an expert in melding voice and music, and his 1974 composition Attica is used to tune in to a conversation in which special guest Irena Haiduk, founder of the non-aligned oral corporation Yugoexport and teacher at Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois, is present as “a voice and nothing more.” Finally, as a way of shifting to the night, we toast the future of Europe.
