Christina Kubisch’s Electrical Walks enable a new experience of the city of Athens. They reveal the hidden electromagnetic fields that go unheard to the human ear: participants are equipped with a special magnetic headphone amplifying various electromagnetic fields of the city. Kubisch guides the walkers to special acoustic landmarks in around the area of Romantso, the historical center of Athens, and with it changes the perception of everyday reality, describing the city’s compound and conditions in unprecedented ways.
Electrical Walks Athens for documenta 14 will be walk nr. 63 of the series, which started in 2003 and has been realized worldwide ever since.
