Le Président (The President), 2013, Cameroon/Germany, 63 min.
Director: Jean-Pierre Bekolo

The President by Jean-Pierre Bekolo is a witty, poetic, and funny take on the ugly reality of power in postcolonial Africa. Imagining the disappearance of a long-serving president on the eve of an election, the film moves between the speculation of the population and the troubled mind of the leader. The film infuriated Cameroon’s President Paul Biya—to whom the fictional president bears a close resemblance—who immediately banned it.

Keimena, a documenta 14 Film Program on ERT2, airs Mondays at midnight from December 19, 2016 to September 18, 2017. Each film can be viewed during the broadcast and streamed on demand for seven days thereafter. Please note that the films are presented in their original language with Greek subtitles, and can be streamed from within Greece only.
